Weddings and events can cost a lot of green, both in money and their impact on the environment. I care deeply about reducing the carbon footprint of my business and hope someday to be carbon neutral. I also am working on other green initiatives such as recycling, renewable energy sources to power my equipment and much, much more.

How You can Help:

Carbon Offset Programs: In an attempt to offset the carbon emissions I cannot eliminate. I am starting to offer options for clients who want a carbon neutral photographer. Right now I have two options available.

Baby Green: $50 – this fee will be donated to Carbonfund.org. They work to both prevent deforestation and reforest areas that need it. They also work on programs that reduce carbon emissions and research new methods of green energy production.

Big Green: $200 – for a really carbon neutral photography experience, I offer the big green package. I will travel to your wedding in a hybrid vehicle. I do not have my own hybrid yet so I use Zipcar. Whatever is not used for the car rental will be donated to Carbonfund.org.

Destination Green: Email for details and quote. If you are having a destination wedding, I offer a complete carbon offset program including the use of a Hybrid vehicle, car carbon emissions offset, air-travel carbon offset and green accommodations options where available.

What I am doing:

Battery Recycling: Photographers use a lot of batteries. It's a fact. Everything we use runs on them. I have switched to using rechargeable batteries in everything I can. For those that I can’t, or for batteries that have run their life, I participate in battery recycling programs that dispose of used batteries in an environmentally friendly way. Also I offer event battery disposal at no extra cost. If you, your guests or even other service providers at your event use up a battery of any kind, I will happily take it away and recycle it for you for free.

Reusable Products: As a photographer, part of staying in business is through advertising. I have eliminated print advertisements I use, and I also use recycled materials for my business cards, contracts and promotional materials.

Green Energy: My electricity comes from 100% wind energy. Electric companies now offer green energy created by wind, solar or hydroelectric energy collection methods. Green energy from the big guys is expensive, I get green energy through a third party provider. It was simple, easy, and I did not have to switch delivery companies, which meant no rewiring, and I did not have to change who I pay.
